| Born in Amsterdam and grown up in Zaandam it is quite easy to understand that kayak racing was my main sports activity.
After 20 years of kayak racing, I participated my first Adventure Race: The Salomon X-Adventure 1999 in Los Picos de Europa in Asturias, Spain, with a Spanish/Dutch team. Quite a lot of Salomon X-Adventures followed, as well as the Raid Gauloises 2000, the RedBull Dutch Extreme (2001 & 2002) and the Eco-Challenge 2001.
In the end of 2000 we left the Netherlands and settled in Barberà de la Conca, a small village between the vineyards in the Catalonian province Tarragona.
There I met the team Sport-Gym Tarragona and with them I participated many Catalan and Spanish adventure races, as well as the RedBull Dutch Extreme 2002.
Today, my sports-aholic colleagues in Tarragona and I are using our "siesta" time to train together. Before the lunch we go mountain biking, mountain running, coasting, sea kayaking, etc.
In the weekends, if not competing in some adventurous competition, we practice the technical disciplines like canyoning, caving, via ferrata, etc., combined with some endurance discipline.
